Every morning our family reads the verse of the day from the Bible app and we pray before heading out the front door. This is a tradition I treasure in my heart as it’s something my own parents would do when my brother and I were growing up (minus the Bible app because for one, my parents are ancient and wouldn’t even know how to use an iPhone if we had them back then and two, we didn’t have “apps” in those historical times). To my parent’s credit – they NOW have iPhones and thanks to Facetime (which most times I have the pleasure of looking at their ears on these Facetime videos since they still get confused), I get to be their IT department every time they have a technical problem, they kill me sometimes with their “issues” but I love them. We’re all headed that direction, right?
This morning the verse of the day was Galatians 6:7-8 “What a person plants he will harvest… the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.” I just knew it was time to release my blog on “Harvest Time is Upon Us!” This message has been burning in my spirit for weeks and I am finally getting to write everything God is doing in this season.
If you follow me on social media (Instagram & Facebook), you have probably seen several pictures of me with other amazing women leaders in the infertility community. When I gave God my “yes” to sharing our story of infertility with the world, I had no idea what was in store. Seriously, I thought no one would even care to read it and it would get lost in the sea of millions of stories out there (because honestly, mine pales in comparison to other women’s journeys and they are much more deserving of the limelight).
What God is doing in the infertility community blows my mind – the divine connections, the conferences, the support groups, the worship, the faith and hope in Jesus is spreading like wildfire. Revival has hit this community and I get to be a part of that! It brings me to tears in humble awe of what Jesus does with your obedience. Your willingness to be uncomfortable (because honestly, if you know me… I hate attention, I hate the limelight, I hate pictures, I hate the microphone, I hate public speaking). If I could run away from it all, I would! But like my dear friend Elisha Kearns from “Waiting for Baby Bird” says, “Jesus didn’t choose comfort over calling and neither will I.” I would rather look back and want to curl up under the covers for all of my mess-ups while using my gifts, than wanting to curl up under the covers out of a place of fear and miss out on all God is doing in this season.
This is a call to every woman (or man) – say yes to Jesus. Give Him your fearful, shy, and scared yes! Whether your gift is cooking, serving, cleaning, speaking, singing, whatever it is. Jesus has given each of us a gift and He wants you to open it, use it, and watch the outpouring of blessing be poured out over your life because you decided to be uncomfortable for Him.
On a personal note, our family is going through several changes in this season and I am SO excited for what God has in store. We are changing churches which we prayed about for over a year and a half. As most of you know, my husband is an Associate Pastor at New Life Covenant Church and we’ve been there since we moved to Chicago five years ago. This season is ending in such a peaceful, God way I can’t even explain it. Our Pastors have given us their blessing and an open door to visits. So grateful for Godly leaders! We will never despise all we learned & grew from spiritually under their umbrella. I know God is not done with us as a family when it comes to ministry. This is just one more “step out of the boat and trust Me” moment that Jesus is inviting us to. Once again, we are giving Him our scared yes. But history in our own lives has proven time and time again – those faith moves have produced a harvest we could never have dreamt up for ourselves, so we are excited. Harvest time is upon us! Funny side note, our new church’s name is Harvest Bible Chapel, I love how God weaves in His love notes that scream, I am with you leading you every step of the way.
In this picture you may see a dead, lifeless field. But if you study it closer, you will notice something special. In my eyes, I see that just like the verse of the day we read today, the farmer and his family are finally feasting at the table on the fruit from a labor intensive, planting season. For years you have plowed and sowed, plowed and sowed, plowed and sowed. You have cried tears, you have endured the pain gracefully, you have spread the seeds of hope, you have shown up faithfully day to day in the mundane, you have remained steadfast. Jesus has confirmed over and over again that harvest time is upon us. I believe you will now enter into a season where you will sit at the table and eat the fruit of your labor. Receive it in Jesus name (and don’t complain about the extra calories you gain at the table!)
P.S. We are in the matching phase of our adoption, so there is not much to report. Please continue praying that God does His perfect will in our family’s life. We appreciate each and every one of you that texts, emails, calls, and prays about our journey. God is faithful!
